Justice for Samson

Samson is a 3-year old, defenceless child, an innocent who was attacked on the 21^st of April, 2008, at Morning Star Farm, in Shamva, Mashonaland East Province, by ZANU (PF) militias. His crime, according to his callous assailants, is that this child’s parents voted for the MDC and that they were still resident on a farm that now ‘belongs’ to ZANU(PF).

The orders for Samson’s attack were issued by the cowardly leaders of ZANU (PF) and carried out by vile individuals whom we shall soon apprehend. I call upon all able bodied Zimbabweans and persons who firmly believe in democracy and justice, to diligently stay within the ZANU (PF) decision cycle and make the Politburo react to our soon to be unveiled countermeasures.

“It’s wiser to keep the enemy inside your tent looking outside than for the enemy outside your tent looking inside.”

ZANU (PF) has declared war on its own people and the defence of the innocent women and children has now been thrust upon us. The time has come to separate men from boys. We can swiftly bring an end to this terror.

“The tree of nationalism must be periodically watered with the blood of patriots. Political violence evokes extremes of human emotion and group bonding that give nations their continued cohesion. Communities generate heroism and sacrifice in war. War produces heroes and evokes sacrifice.” We are now at war, a war ZANU (PF) is waging against the people of Zimbabwe who demand and deserve better life.

Today, I plead for any information pertaining to the attack on Samson, as I pursue the perpetrators of this heinous crime. I am compiling a criminal docket that meticulously documents the command structures of the ZANU (PF) terror campaign, identifies the architects and all the foot soldiers responsible for the violence in Zimbabwe today.

The Price of Democracy - US$60 million versus US$1

The Governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ), Gideon Gono, recently proclaimed that it would cost about US$60 million dollars to conduct the presidential election runoff. These monies could instead be used for procuring the following national essentials:

· 240 000 tonnes of maize

· 48 million litres of fuel

· 3 years supply of generic Antiretrovirals for all of Zimbabwe’s HIV patients

The alternative is to spend only one dollar (US), the cost of a single 12.7 x 99mm round for this 50 Caliber, Long Range Sniper Rifle.

Produced by Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, the M82A1 Special Application Scoped Rifle is an air-cooled, semi-automatic rifle equipped with a 10x Unertl scope mounted on a mil. spec. sight rail and 10 round detachable box magazine. Firing M2 Caliber .50 Browning Machine Gun cartridges, the M82A1 is capable of engaging man-sized targets out to 1500m, armored targets out to 2000m and is capable of penetrating up to 30mm of steel plate.

To keep the felt recoil to a minimum, the M82A1 utilizes the short recoil principle developed by John Browning, which diffuses the recoil energy over a longer period of time. It so happens that the draftsman, the chief perpetrator of flagrant human rights abuses is Robert Mugabe, who lost the elections on 29 March, 2008. With his demise, the entire ZANU (PF) terror machine will crumble and Zimbabwe can revert to the rule of law, peace, and democracy.

A cost benefit analysis makes this alternative a no-brainer.

The Matrix of White Farmers and Vote Buying

Mugabe told villagers at a campaign rally in Mahusekwa district that Zambian officials were delaying delivery of more than 300 000 tonnes of maize purchased by his government. According to the Minister of Agriculture, Rugare Gumbo, “ZANU (PF) has dispatched youths from the ruling ZANU PF party to Zambia to help load maize it badly needs to placate a hungry electorate ahead of elections in two weeks time.”

What happened to the Mother of all Harvests, Operation Maguta, Vision 160, and the RBZ - ZW21 trillion dollar Agricultural Support Enhancement Facility?

Most white farmers who were unceremoniously stripped of their birthright and expelled from their homes sought refuge in the neighbouring SADC country of Zambia. The government of Levy Mwanawasa gave them fifty-year leases and these ex-Zimbabwean farmers immediately embarked on an agrarian revolution that permitted Zambia to become a net exporter of grain for the first time in thirty years.

The same displaced white Zimbabwean farmers are now growing maize in Zambia, which is then bought by ZANU (PF) using Chinese and Iranian loans, to be distributed to potential rural voters in Zimbabwe. In return the famished voters are coerced to vote for Mugabe and retain him as President for another five years.

ZANU (PF)’s insidious plan is hypocritical and deserves to be condemned by all rational Africans who were hoodwinked into believing that the Mugabe’s land reform programme was a necessary act of redressing a colonial wrong.

Zambia and Malawi receive the same rainfall pattern as Zimbabwe, influenced by the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). Our neighbours produced more maize in the same year that ZANU (PF) blamed everything from imaginary Western sanctions to sabotage by monkeys of the country’s sole fertiliser plant.

In the 2007/2008 season, Zimbabwe harvested 30 000 tonnes of wheat instead of 400 000 tonnes, 600 000 tonnes of maize instead of 1.8 million tonnes and 60 million kilogrammes of tobacco, instead of 200 million kilogrammes, the worst agricultural season since 1980. Ninety percent of all agricultural land is now in the hands of ZANU (PF) members.

The farmers that Mugabe ridiculed, robbed, and abused, are now the saviours of his political fortunes by growing and supplying the proverbial African currency for vote buying - maize.

It certainly does not rain mealies.

Ethiopian court sentences ex-dictator Mengistu to death

ADDIS ABABA (AFP) — Ethiopia's Supreme Court sentenced former dictator Mengistu Haile Mariam to death in his absence on Monday, May, 26, 2008 along with 17 senior officials of his regime, overturning a previous life term on appeal.

The court followed the request of the prosecution to toughen the sentence imposed in January 2007 on Mengistu, who has lived in comfortable exile in Zimbabwe since he was toppled in 1991, after he was found guilty of genocide at the end of a decade-long trial.

Mengistu, an army lieutenant colonel, was a member of the Marxist junta known as the Derg which ruled Ethiopia from 1974 after the ousting of Emperor Haile Selassie, assuming control of it in a bloody coup in 1977.

The genocide charges arose from a crackdown against opponents in 1977-78 known as the Red Terror in which tens of thousands were killed or disappeared.

The court that passed life sentences in 2007 accepted pleas for leniency from the defence, but Supreme Court judge Desta Gebru rejected them Monday.

"The court has decided to revoke the leniency appeal from the defendants," he said in his ruling. "It has sentenced them to death.

"They have tortured and executed thousands of innocent people in public, which applies as genocide according to Ethiopian law."

"Despite claiming that the killings resulted from the chaos that ensued after the (1974) coup, the defendants ordered massacres and abuses several years after the death of the emperor," the judge added.

"All defendants are guilty of genocide, murder and illegal confiscation and detainment of innocent people. As a result, they will be handed out the most severe punishment in Ethiopian law."

Desta said the court would await the confirmation of the sentences by President Girma Woldegiorgis -- who has the power to amend them again, before fixing an execution date.

Those sentenced to death along with Mengistu included Legesse Afsaw, known as "the butcher of Tigre", former vice-president Fisseha Desta and former prime minister Fikresellassie Wogderes.

On the reading of the Supreme Court's verdict, many relatives of the accused in court burst into tears.

Although the death sentence is sometimes pronounced in Ethiopia, only two people have been executed in the past 10 years and none since August 2007.

Following the end of Mengistu's trial last year, Robert Mugabe's government in Zimbabwe ruled out his extradition, saying, "Comrade Mengistu still remains a special guest".

The Federal High Court had convicted Mengistu and 11 of his top aides in December 2006 on 211 counts of genocide, homicide, illegal imprisonment and illegal property seizure.

A further 60 defendants were also found guilty of genocide, but only by a majority 2-1 ruling by the judges, who acquitted some but not all on several of the lesser charges.

Only one defendant was acquitted on all charges.

Mengistu and his former top aides were also accused of the murders of former Ethiopian emperor Haile Selassie, whom they overthrew in 1974, and Orthodox Patriarch Abuna Tefelows.

Of the 73 accused, 14 had died and only 33 were present in court. Mengistu was among 25 defendants tried in absentia.

Ethiopian Special Forces are hereby invited to plan for a military operation in conjunction with the new democratically elected Government of Zimbabwe, to arrest and remove Mengistu Haile Mengistu from Zimbabwean territory.

The Office of the President, Not the President’s Office.

“An army of sheep led by a lion would defeat an army of lions led by a sheep.”

Sometime in 1998 it was decided by the then defence forces hierarchy under the guidance of Grace Mugabe to change the colours of the Presidential Guard Battalion to match her favourite petticoats, dresses and hats. The entire exercise was unnecessary, costly, inconvenient and opposed by senior army officers. This cosmetic change had military ramifications that interfered with morale and tradition as it portrayed the Presidential Guard Battalion, a mere infantry battalion, as being a special army unit. However, as a compromise, Grace had her way and colours of the Presidential Guard were changed to a “banana” yellow.

The Zimbabwe National Army is the gravitational force that supports the government and ensures it remains in its political orbit. Economic collapse, social unrest and political turmoil are the vital ingredients necessary for a successful military coup and a professional army on the other hand is the counterweight. Zimbabwe has had a silent military coup carried out by rogue officers within the armed forces who are partisan, unprofessional and disloyal to the recently democratically elected government .

Browsing through the various newspaper and internet articles authored by cyberspace armchair political analysts, I wish to correct some blatant prevarications and disingenuous comments about Brigadier-General Armstrong Gunda. Zimbabwe’s myriad of pseudo politicians and counterfeit democrats who collectively possess “a killing tongue and a quiet sword”, are uninformed purveyors of myopic ideologies with no locus of understanding of the fabric of military discipline and the principles of war.

It was during the period of the DRC conflict that I first met the then Commanding Officer of the Presidential Guard Battalion, Colonel Armstrong Gunda, a witty and affable officer who spoke eloquently of his desire to remain professional in an army whose command structure bore the hallmarks of a partisan ragtag military outfit. Most of Zimbabwe’s armed forces equipment had become functionally obsolete and the success in the DRC depended on the “caprice of fortune and the faults committed by the enemy”.

“Until lions have their own historians, the tales of the hunt shall always glorify the hunter”, - Swahili proverb.

Brigadier-General Armstrong Gunda was a loyal army officer who espoused the meritorious virtues of a competent commander. During our numerous intellectual debates on issues ranging from civil-military relations, the rule of law, economic and political reform, and national service to land reform, his position was consistently patriotic with a hint of cautious pragmatism. On matters of sovereignty and national security, I found him to be sternly resolute.

“I am the commander of the Presidential Guard Battalion not the President’s Guards, I protect the Office of the President not the President’s Office. I don’t care whoever occupies the Office as long that person has been duly elected by the people of Zimbabwe in a democratic fashion”. These are the words spoken by the then commander of the Presidential Guard Battalion, one Friday evening in 2000 at the King George (KGV1),Harare Barracks, officer’s mess.

The then Colonel Gunda had a constitutional obligation under the defence act to perform ceremonial as well as other specific duties assigned to him by the ZNA commander. A clear distinction has to be made between guarding the Office of the President and guarding the President. The latter is a function of the Central Intelligence Organisation’s CSU - Close Security Unit also known as the President’s Office. The CIO assess the security threats and risks to the President and requests assistance from the other armed services to mitigate such a threat, i.e. the Air Force will provide helicopter transport in certain cases, the ZNA will provide visible armed escort, and the ZRP provides static uniformed details.

The CIO has however, created a perception of fear in the psyche of Zimbabwe’s conscience and perpetuates the myth that the President’s life is in danger every time he leaves the State House. This is the precursor to deploying a heavily armed platoon of Presidential Guard troops with each presidential motorcade as it dangerously speeds through suburban streets commanding all motorists and pedestrians off busy roads.

This deplorable act of the misuse of military power fueled by paranoia enabled the government to personalise the Presidential Guard Battalion, an army infantry unit, into Robert Mugabe’s personal guards. The then Colonel Gunda resented this fact and his umbrage was common knowledge amongst senior army officers.

In jest, the then Colonel Gunda was referred to by his peers as the Commander – Banana Republic Guards, in reference to the yellow berets, or the Commander, Presidential Guard Alert, “chef wana mahobho”, in reference to a security company in Harare called Guard Alert, whose guards carry menacing wooden batons and wear hideous green nylon overalls with bright orange hard hats.

Brigadier-General Armstrong Gunda was a careful military tactician and strategist who definitely was aware of the perils of rural railway crossings. How then does a man who constantly planned the President’s road trips over the same highways be careless in his personal trip planning? What was he doing on the Marondera highway at five in the morning? Where is the National Railways of Zimbabwe accident report? Where is the damaged motor vehicle? Who performed the autopsy and where is the Government Pathologist's post postmortem report? Which Zimbabwe Republic Police station attended the scene and where is their Road Traffic Accident(RTA) report?

Above are some unanswered questions that demand an independent inquest.

The gates of forgiveness shall be shut upon those responsible for ordering and perpetrating this heinous crime, for they have robbed our nation and the future democratically elected President of an illustrious, competent, professional military officer. Brig Gunda’s contempt for unlawful military instructions and acquiescence of democratic principles was well known. This principle coupled with his refusal to further buttress a government that is in constant violation of the constitution, rule of law and the basic human values which he took an oath to protect, cost him his life. Brig Gunda was vehemently opposed to military adventures in the form of coups and he unobtrusively offered advice to the President to retire , as both the Commander in Chief and Head of State before the nation further slides into irretrievable social anarchy and financial ruin.

Zimbabwe’s military cemeteries are now awash with fresh graves of other Senior Military Officers whose untimely and mysterious deaths occurred days after that fateful meeting in which Brigadier Gunda stated the inevitable to Robert Mugabe.

Brig Gunda was fiercely loyal to Zimbabwe and not to Robert Mugabe. Mugabe , a mere side note in Brig Gunda's service to his country. By chance,luck and murder Mugabe happened to be occupying the Office of the President at a time when men of valor diligently performing their constitutional duties and obligations constantly visit danger and keep us safe.

General Taurai Gideon Lifa, Brigadier-General Armstrong Paul Gunda, Brigadier- General Fakazi Muleya and other ZDF officers who have been killed for defending democracy rest in peace.

Lest we forget.

RE: Retirement and Acceptance of the Presidential Election Outcome

I am an exiled Zimbabwean citizen, respectfully writing to express my unreserved revulsion to your deafening silence as both the President of Zimbabwe and the Commander-In-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF), over the recent toxic and provocative utterances by your appointed Military, Para-military, and Police Commanders.

Mr. President, the era of repressive military adventures in modern Africa is over. Incendiary seditious threats of a coup d'état and to democracy, belong to the past. Your esteemed office has to repudiate the offending Defence Force Officers, who have preemptively threatened the imminent will of the people.

May I humbly remind you, Mr. President that your muteness on this grave matter is clear acquiescence to the impending violations of international humanitarian law which shall inexorably occur and of which you shall be clearly culpable.

Zimbabwe is eagerly awaiting a peaceful election and subsequent transition.

My umbrage with the intentional misuse of military power and your government’s constant flagrant violations of the supreme law of the land, our constitution, compels me to advise you to plan for a graceful exit from the Zimbabwean political landscape after the elections.

I trust Mr. President, and appeal to your good office, conscience, and lucid judgement, that the elections are free and fair. I further request that you proclaim your austere adherence to the African Union (AU), Southern African Development Community (SADC), United Nations (UN), and internationally accepted election standards to which Zimbabwe is a signatory.

Africa and the international community await your dignified exit and long overdue retirement. At 84, Mr. President, you are now too old, have failed to understand the youth of the nation, and cling to archaic antiquated ideals. Zimbabwe seeks to reclaim its rightful place amongst the league of progressive nations. Do what is best for Zimbabwe and end your legacy honourably.

Robert Mugabe's Call for War Against Democracy

Robert Mugabe threatened during an election speech in Masvingo,Zimbabwe, to send war veterans back to the bush to wage war against the MDC if it wins the elections.

“We resolved to send our comrades, led by brave men like Cde Zvinavashe who is here, to fight the whites who had taken our land and we will send them back again should Tsvangirai win the elections.’ So we will not hesitate to fight again, than letting the country be ruled by puppets,” he said.

This blatant saber rattling, habitually divisive incendiary political speech, devours any latitude of a peaceful transition after the elections. Imminent civil strife is upon us unless we take pre-emptive corrective countermeasures.

"Put your sword back into its place; for all those who take up the sword shall perish by the sword." (Matthew 26:52-53)

May I prevail upon ordinary Zimbabweans to now stand ready to sacrifice and defend our democracy in a battle that will prevent the continued unnecessary suffering should Mugabe and his generals declare war.

Ecclesiastes 3:8 declares, “there is a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.”

For years we have endured economic mismanagement, the deterioration of health services, hyperinflation, unemployment, incessant shortages of basic commodities, gross violations of our God-given rights and freedoms. It has thus become necessary in the evolution of our independence to eliminate the undesirables.

“We must not cause greater evil than the evil to be eliminated.” Bring it on Robert Mugabe, you’re not the franchise holder for guerilla warfare.

We pray to the Almighty and seek a “mandate from heaven” as we embark on this historic inevitability, facing insurmountable odds, against a seemingly formidable, blatantly arrogant, and ruthless regime.

Divine intervention, our valor, discipline and methodical strategic planning, shall ensure that this war is not defined by innumerable casualties or the wanton destruction of property. Terrorism has no place in our war for “terrorism is not war but a mere undesirable tactic of war.”

We have sufficient numbers that understand our goals and the mission on hand. Our bedrock principle is the rule of law. We yearn for, and seek the dedication, social and political support of all peace loving Zimbabweans as we dismantle this tyrannical Frankenstein and its instruments of terror.

The most important undertaking during a time of war is to pray for Godly wisdom for the brave leaders, the safety of the combatants, quick resolution of hostilities, and minimum casualties on both sides of the conflict.

Mark13:7 “When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.”.

We have reluctantly opted to bear arms in order to preserve the future of our land. Let us all pray for a short quick and decisive war.

Dear Ambassador,

I humbly address myself to your esteemed office requesting for the urgent intervention by the United Nations on the worsening political and humanitarian crisis unfolding in Zimbabwe.

The Presidential election results in Zimbabwe have been withheld by persons who government have now conducted a de facto military coup.

Unless the United Nations and the international community at large intervene soon, the political tension and public discontent in Zimbabwe will result in violent confrontation between the regime of Robert Mugabe and the impoverished, oppressed people of Zimbabwe. This will inverably lead to civil strife, and compounded by the economic meltdown, will trigger regional instability.

We urge all members of the Security Council to pass a resolution upon the presentation of the facts by the election observers and the opposition in Zimbabwe over the delay in the tabulation of the Presidential elections. The resolution made by the United Nations Security Council should impose personal economic sanctions on the regime of Robert Mugabe and establish a tribunal to investigate these violations.

On humanitarian grounds alone, a United Nations military intervention for the removal of Robert Mugabe and his barbaric regime is long overdue. The blatant and deliberate infliction of misery, hardship, torture and grief on ordinary citizens by this regime forms the basis for the use of military force.

Of the viable practical options available to the international community and indeed to all law abiding Zimbabwean citizens, the military intervention is the only remaining option. It is always favourable to find a political or diplomatic solution, but the failure of these initiatives brings us to this last resort.

Under international law, the regime’s posture of mobilizing and pre-positioning its armed forces against the civilian population constitutes visible and palpable proof of its offensive motive which warrants the intervention of United Nations. The mandate for which will be for the restoration of human rights and averting a humanitarian crisis.

The United Nations needs to firstly establish a no fly zone in areas of Zimbabwe where humanitarian assistance is urgently required and is being hampered by the regime’s policies of politicizing food distribution. These areas need to be demilitarized and a buffer zone established. The United Nations then becomes the sovereign authority in these areas and assumes all command and control powers.

Secondly the United Nations and the international community at large have to take preventative military action against the Mugabe regime in order to avert any further violations of international humanitarian law. The United Nations Security Council has in the past authorized and initiated the use of force to end violations of international humanitarian law. The world has witnessed examples of this in Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Bosnia, Rwanda, Albania and Somalia.

Mugabe’s exit has to be hastened, let all freedom loving Zimbabweans with freedom flowing in their veins standby and prepare to defend their right to a better life. The average life expectancy in Zimbabwe is now 30; unemployment is over 80% coupled with runaway inflation. Most young Zimbabweans are going to be dying or dead from disease, hunger or war, before their 40^th birthday.

In tandem to any proposed military intervention, a well planned post conflict strategy for economic and social recovery needs to be formulated and implemented.

Zimbabweans stand ready to chart a roadmap for a Zimbabwe after Mugabe, under the auspices of the United Nations. We are united for the attainment of freedom and democracy under one umbrella.
